ABOUT CACTUS EXPLORER
Cactus Explorer is a travel, research and environmental consulting agency based in South America. Leading guide and consultant, Stefan Campbell, is an Australian naturalist and science communicator with a primary focus on desert ecology.
Stefans interest in cacti began at a young age and motivated him to visit exotic plant habitats in Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Madagascar, the United States and Chile, where he is currently based.
There are almost two thousand cactus species throughout the Americas, of which many are now endangered, primarily due to habitat destruction and climate change. One goal of Cactus Explorer Tours and Consulting is to document the current status of all cactus species in habitat to support cactus biology research and conservation projects, in addition to providing responsible and safe eco-tourism to these plant habitats.
The main objective of this website is to generate interest in the cactus family and the extreme and diverse environments in which they live. Ultimately, our goal is to educate the broader public and reduce ‘plant blindness’ while motivating and supporting current and future habitat conservation efforts. Our strategy for achieving this is to educate local communities, government bodies and corporations about these noble plants and their unique and important ecological contribution.
Contact Stefan directly via email at cactusexplorertours@gmail.com if you have any comments, questions or are interested in visiting habitat. Also, please inform us of any cactus conservation efforts you may know of internationally – we are always interested in hearing about current projects to find out how we can support them.
You can also book Stefan for live online or in person presentations by contacting him directly. Sample presentation outlines can be found in the ‘presentations’ tab. Ask about other talk topics relating to cactus evolution and ecology suited to plant societies and universities.
We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in your habitat soon!
